Standards of dance and acrobatics will have to be high as Butlins is famous for its live entertainment, a reputation honed over almost 75 years of family and kids holidays, and doesn’t normally invite outside performers to represent them in public. Mike Godolphin, Head of Entertainment at Butlins, said; “I’m really looking forward to reviewing some of the videos but competition will be fierce as we have to ensure that only the very best perform alongside the Butlins name. I’m proud of this sponsorship deal with British Basketball but am aware of the expectations of the fans for top class entertainment during the breaks”. As well as cheerleading, Butlins will be entertaining the crowds with their own leading UK and International Urban Academy stars with displays of break dancing, free running and street dancing. Butlins performers will take to the court at the home international games in the Game On 2010 series; Northumbria University Sport Central (Aug 8), Birmingham NIA (Aug 14 and 17), Surrey Sports Park (Aug 20) and Liverpool Echo Arena (Aug 26). Both basketball and cheerleading have grown in popularity over recent years with the former being the third most popular sport in the UK and the latter a recognised fun way to get fit. Although Butlins offers cheerleading as an activity at its three beachside Family Holiday Resorts, Bognor Regis, Minehead and Skegness, they can’t use their own professional troupes as they will be busy entertaining thousands of guests through the busy summer school holidays. What Butlins is looking for: • An existing troupe (between 8 - 12 members – all members 16+ years) • Able to combine dance and acrobatics into routines • Able to choreograph their own routines (5 different ones) • *Provide their own transport to and from the matches • Be available throughout July and August 2010 • Come to London for a final audition - early July * Butlins will cover travel costs to and from the matches and make a donation to the winning troupe If your troupe is up for the challenge this is how you enter or visit www.butlins.com/cheerleading 1. Film your audition piece on a video camera, camera phone, or webcam, keeping it to no longer than one minute in length. Please bear in mind that submissions featuring nudity, profanities or anything that may be offensive to our viewers will NOT be accepted 2. Save your video in a compatible format (WMV, 3GP, AVI, MOV, MP4, MPEG, FLV and MKV are all acceptable) 3. Create a YouTube account or log in to your pre-existent account at www.youtube.com and upload your audition video 4. Here’s the very important bit: When you’re editing the video description, add the tag ‘cheerleaderaudition’’ and set the privacy to ‘share your video with the world’. This will help us to find your video and add it to our YouTube channel 5. Your video should shortly appear on our YouTube channel under ‘Cheerleader Auditions’ in our ‘Playlists’ section 6. After the competition closes on Sunday 27th June Butlins will shortlist entrants, based on their video submissions, who will then be invited to a second round face-to-face audition at a venue in London. Should your troupe make the shortlist, please make sure we can contact you through a private message on YouTube by unchecking the option ‘Allow only friends to send messages or share videos’ on your privacy option 7.
